     She Slept With Every Man

 (The Many Roads To Freedom)

She slept with every man who

Asked her to.

Its intimacy

Gave, she said,

An empathy

For equalizing feeling. “Bed’s

A leveler –

The evil sides

Out of the way.”

I heard her say that and,

I understood and understand the spirit

Of iconoclastic thought.

It was detachment that she sought,

And that was just her way of getting it.

When it worked, it worked.

When it didn’t, well,

It didn’t –

And good riddance

And goodbye

To one more try

At psychologic chastity

Which in the end befriended her,

I hear.
