You Walked Out Of My House 1951

You Walked Out Of My House

You walked out of my house

And out of my life forever.

When I asked if you were coming back

You answered “never”.

Then I smiled as I thought,

“He’ll be round my door on the next day”.

But the next day arrived,

And each next was a vexed and a hexed day.

I’d supposed that you were fooling –

Making fun and nothing more.

Conclusions wrong,

It wasn’t long

Before I was pounding at your door.

You walked out of my house

And out of my life forever.

I thought I could get you back

By being so clever.

Hesitatingly I tarried,

While you went off and got married.

You walked out of my house

And out of my life forever.
