All Species, Every One 2012

All Species, Every One

All species, every one;

Feeding, playing, sickening:

All wanting to survive

Though stricken, weakened,

Fighting not to dive

Into the depths of death

Where synonym and adjective

Lack strength enough

To clarify;

Energy that was divisible, invisible,

Unknowable, defied.

Energy evaporated, disappeared –

To leave a motionless, decaying form

From ant to elephant: small to gigantic.

Then there’s me, the un-romantic

Unaccepting critic.

A Stiff-Necked Table Partner 2012

A Stiff-Necked Table Partner

We sit beside each other lunching.

He can’t turn to face me

Without rotating his shoulders, hunching.

He simply cannot turn his head.

Unhappy.  Mornings bad,

(He told me) a depression comes and goes.

He’s anti-God.

He wears the same clothes

Day by day

While new ones clothe the closet.

Loyal to the scientific,

(He needs proof)

Pragmatic, concrete, melancholic,

Life-technique oblique,

A fast-eroding stonework,

He is stiff-necked.

When Love Is Postponed 2012

           When Love Is Postponed

Yesterday  unfinished;

Today heaven- perfect.

It pays to delay the ways of the flesh:

The semi-erect, the urges half-baked;

And patient, detached, wait

For sensor-connections

to merge.

Short Commentary (on life in bed) 2012

Short Commentary

(on life in bed)

Less often;

Softer

Than the years before;

Less pressing.

Will we, should we?  Less sure

As to

What to do,

The paradox

That less is more

That’s solved

in love.

The Noble Prize II 2012

The Noble Prize

Somewhere exists a noble prize,

Eternal prize: a special type

Without the hype,

Tripped from a mind to fingertip,

From pencil scratch and paperclip,

To bind an un-read whole;

A prize for those – the never published –

Open-piped, sagacious fools

Who work, hand-tooling just one thing

By rolling out a lifelong scroll,

Withdrawing ego-mind control;

Finding meaning in a song

That never reaches critic’s blows,

Meaning there that knows

The beauty of endeavor

And its prize.

There Comes A Day 2012

There Comes A Day When

(There) Comes a day

When fed up

With the maintenance of body,

First a fleeting flash,

A shoddy glimpse into

Who’s looking and who cares

And your indifference,

You know, super-know

That nothing:

Bone, skin, flesh,

The rumpus and commotion

That you’ve made into

The main connection

Of your life

Is nothing.

In Jail 2012

In Jail*

You’ll die one day.

Is that your plan?

To stay

In jail – intrigue, conspiracy your strategy?

Quel plan!

Don’t you know

You’ll go and die

And what’s the crime, the time been worth

Besides becoming a one more digit;

Indigent, beneath all worth.

We’re all in jails,

Yours is special:

You’ve been caught –

And what

A waste of talent!

members of a wedding party in an attempt to kill)

Postponing Even Cancelling 2012

Postponing Even Cancelling

It isn’t what it seems to be.

It doesn’t even need to be.

The lower parts,

Reflections of the higher hearts

Together,

There to gather

Higher feelings rather

Than the lower…

Parting after minutes sweet,

A minute’s sweat,

To start the day

In much the ordinary way,

With breakfast, work, etcetera,

Bettered by

A coupling that

Was not.
