How Do You Write So Much 2013

How Do You Write So Much?

They always ask, “How do you do it –

Write so much?”

I always answer, “Through some network/spectrum/grid;

A phrase, a book, celestial guides…

Who knows?

One rides that horse of inspiration’s perspiration;

‘Workhorse’ comes to mind.

It’s in the air,

It’s who you are;

The right side of the brain,

The way you train;

It’s logic if you’re logical,

And if you’re not,

It’s that!

If there’s an answer, I don’t know it.

If I knew, I’d throw it back,

A fielder in the lob,

And in that field where everything is valid,

Waiting to be said,

Grist for the mill,

It doesn’t hurt

If you’ve a thing (or two) worthwhile to utter;

Meter, rhythms, meaning, rhyme

Revealed in form –

If you’ve got those, you’re home.

Liturgy For The Rhododendrons 2013

Liturgy For The Rhododendrons

Twenty-three days into June,

Rhododendrons gone,

Having lasted longer than

They’ve ever done

In all the years we’ve lived here,

Peaked

This week

Just when we celebrated summer’s solstice;

Glorious, abundant, no, profuse in pinkness.

We were blessed.

As if it knew it was no longer needed,

Days of admiration ended,

Rhododendron’s tree called on the rain

To pellet down

Like hail.

So now, until

Next year,

We gaze enraptured,

Petals shrunken, darkened,

Ground-enriching.

People Smoke A Joint Because 2010

People Smoke A Joint Because

People smoke a joint because

It calms them down,

It makes them laugh.

The symmetry of mediocrity’s

 Conventions flee.

It also makes them hungry.

Answers come, and often laughter

Is the payoff.

Groups ingested LSD

To see more beauty,

Dig into the new,

Change patterns that were old in mind,

Find truths that were not there to find,

Break down, build up

And sip the cup

Of everything there is to sip.

People drink because they are

More able to shift gears,

Take risks,

Lose fears.

The problem is to lay off.

Get it? Payoff/layoff?

I liked that.

Secular Sweden #2 2013 (revised)

Secular Sweden #2

A fact:

To read about on Google,

Hear about and see on Sverige’s* TV,

On which each Swede is nurtured.

Uncomfortable to raise in company,

The theme: existence, (which

I think is fun to mention).

Quest and question

most exciting;

More than, say ‘who did what, with, to…’

Well, you know.

Sweden is

The world’s most secularized

Nation.  Not discussed or asked about,

The concept of the Root.

What’s kicked around is food –

Menus exchanged;

Tools, cars and trängsel skatt**

Crime, immigrants.  That’s what!

These ‘in’, God ‘out’.

Life’s possibilities.

Who to blame?

Not long ago, when Sweden was extreme,

Its zeal in moralism, Luther’s name was hyped;

Kings, wars.  Just flip a coin.

With churches up for sale or rented –

Or plain empty,

Here in war-free Viking’s land

We are a secular society,

A secular majority.

The cycle turned.

Secular Sweden 2013

Secular Sweden

A fact;

To read about on Google,

Hear about and see on Sverige’s* TV;

On which each Swede is nurtured.

Uncomfortable to raise in company,

This most essential subject: our

Existence (which, I think

Is fun to mention)

This a quest and question most exciting.

(much more than, say

‘who did what, with, to…’

well, you know.)

Sweden is

The world’s most secularized

Nation.  Not discussed or asked about,

This concept of the Root.

What is kicked around is food;

Recipes exchanged;

Tools and cars and trängsel skatt**,

Immigration crime.  That’s what!

These are ‘in’,

God is ‘out.

God, life’s possibilities.

Who to blame?

Historically, not long ago, when Sweden was extreme,

Its zeal with moralistic base, Luther ‘s named –

And kings and wars other things, and…

Nowadays with Swedish churches

Emptying, for sale or rented,

Here in war-free Viking’s land

We are a secular society, manned

By secular majority.

Mister Cause 2013

Mister Cause

Sitting on the dock [I]

Practice thanking Mr. Cause, breeze

Making living easy.

Senses working;

Birds, words, sun high

In a sky awake till midnight.

(It’s extraordinary floral June; bright colored June;

Sweden, when the days will hardly end.)

Practicing and analyzing thoughtless feeling;

Thinking, hearing, seeing, touching Albert Cat

Who’s come to visit on the dock,

Discovering the fishless lake;

Half-closed lids see diamonds glimmer

Watered northern lights striated;

Optical illusions shimmer.

Mr. Cause today my teacher,

Needing practice to appreciate.

Genderlessly worthy of devotion;

Making living easy,

Making everything.

Night Thought 2013

Night Thought

Your friends will watch you growing old

And love you [anyway, in spite of, for…]

(Darkening over-lip, hairs on chin

Unseen by changing lenséd eyes)

Love you between thick and thin,

Fat and sick, not picky about outer things.

Strangers will not know the difference

Between what you were and are,

Not caring and why should they?

Aging, growing old, maturing –

(Verbs you use, show mind that’s yours,

For verbs you choose are mind that’s yours.)

In any case, grow old and let it!

House no attitude about it –

None at all,

at all,

at all.

(that’s supposed to be an echo

bouncing back on walls of time)

Attend to something else and grow.

There’s More That I Do Not Know 2013

There’s More That I Do Not Know

There’s more that I do not know

Than know.  More than…

With so much left behind

To bind one, and

New stuff to march to,

All the while un-binding what’s behind,

It makes one humble,

Stumbling forward humbled.

Not, however fumbling

As one did before,

But moving, no, proceeding wisely,

Carefully,

Yet more spontaneous than ever.

I, not clever by a half, know

That there’s more  I do not know

Than know –

A helpless yielding in its place.

It’s nice.

The field is spacious,

Each task mine, mine for the asking,

Each mine to divine,

To follow through,

And do.

I Don’t Like You Death 2006 2013

I Don’t Like You Death

I don’t like you death –

You make things disappear.

You take my bird, my friends,

You leave me here

And then,

You

Take me too.

Take me to

I-don’t-know-where;

Secrets you don’t want to share.

It isn’t fair,

Or is it?

Jag Tycker Inte Om Dig Död

Jag tycker inte om dig död.

Du får saker att försvinna.

Du tar min fågel, mina vänner;

Lämnar mig här

Och sedan tar du mig också.

Tar mig till jag vet inte var.

Hemligheter du inte vill dela

är inte rätt,

Eller är det?

No Background Music (revised) 2013

            No Background Music

There’ll be no background music then;

Valleys that refuse to sing,

Glens that ring out nothing –

Dales too.

Only

Quiet.

How to get used to the mute

Unqualified;

No angel choir,

No Gabriel to tootie toot.

There being so much music

In the background –

Does that frighten you?

There’ll be no background music then:

Just silence.  Then

Get used to it;

The drop of nothingness.

The stop, there being

So much tuneful noise?

Silence.  No soft speaking, singing.

Worlds sound-free, mute. quiet.

How to get used to the silence,

I’m not sure,

(There being so much music in the background.)
