History’s Loss 2013

History’ s Loss

When you ‘write’ in your computer,

Something’s lost.

Thought-fast, of course,

Pen, pencil and eraser

Which in life, record

Both bad and good;

Emotion, pressure,

The intended or corrected –

All that you can stuff into a box

For generations coming

To examine – well,

The cost is high,

An ‘I’ essential, personal

Never to take place,

Tastes shared with son and daughter,

Poet lover,

Academic and historian;

Ne’er to have existed.
