Guest Etiquette 2014

Guest Etiquette

We had a guest.

And what a guest!

He slept till one, his smartphone on.

He never asked to set the table,

Able as he was;

Capable – he lifted weights.

There is an etiquette

That certain guests don’t get,

May never…

Verse reminder.

Help the host!

Here’s a cue;

Most of the work is done for you.

Postponing life that daily calls,

Host and hostess chained

To keep you entertained.

That’s it: message/essence.

Take it in! Unless

Host has a stable

Of domestic help,

Set the table,

Do the dishes,

Make your bed.

You’ll be the most appreciated and delicious

Guest they’ve ever had.

Guest etiquette.

People Who Have Money 2014

People Who Have Money

People who have money

Are as simple or as complex as are

People who have none,

A small, inadequate, plain not-a-lot

Preconceptions of the rich;

Unfounded, sweeping, shunning individuality;

Scapegoat and excuse to classify and pigeonhole.

I’ve heard it all.

This is something I must preach,

Feeling sorry, as I do, for poor and rich alike

Who lack

The wisdom to discriminate

Between a good man and a not-.

It Can’t Be Fun To Be A Prophet 2014

It Can’t Be Fun To Be A Prophet

It can’t be fun to be a prophet;

With no vanity, no pride in seeing

What nobody else is seeing.

He can shout it –

Not a soul believes it.

Suffering

To know inside an inner eye

That things are going under,

For he never sees good fortune.

Cataclysmic devastations,

Ruin, upheavals

And disaster.

No, it can’t be fun

To be someone

That everyone thinks mad.

Infinite Expression 2014

Infinite Expression

It just keeps coming/going on and on,

Flowing, spouting meanings

Coming out of nothing.

With no eyes it sees,

No ears, it hears;

Coming through me if I let it.

I produce, create, state anything

Through partial capabilities,

Risking boring

With my smatterings

Of goodly truths;

Daring, varying, adoring

All this infinite expression,

Flabbergasted at the least.

No Adjectives Today 2014

No Adjectives Today

God, no adjectives today,

No verbs,

No words to say;

Just looking

Up

With hope,

No, faith

That you exist,

Intangible,

Unquantifiable

But absolute

In fact,

Composed of all,

In all,

And that

My day will go exact- ly as you planned,

And

That

is splendid.

Layers 4.17.2014

Layers

Suffering and death;

Yet [there is] normal banter

Taking place on the verandah:

Everydayness in one’s presence.

Pain and grief before one’s tears and deafened ears:

Senses more acute than ever.

Spool and reel are emptying,

The ancient scrolls being fulfilled,

The relatively-all is closing in

And we, the relatively well-to-do

More watchers than participants,

Complaining when it’s raining;

Bombs and bullets, staining

Sidewalks; culling genus,

Killing genius.

Watcher too –

Have I let slip through

All ten fingers circumstance

I could have changed; had influence,

Been vigorous,

Not letting coward, comfort-seeking prominence

Crave dominance and win?

The Publisher Wanted Free Verse 2014

The Publisher Wanted Free Verse

Free verse

Is ridiculerse.

Anyone who speaks

In sentences

(which means you/me)

Can, import free

Write rhyme-less/beat-less prose

And call it verse.

As said before, ridiculerse.

Projection 2014/Listen Carefully 2011 (fraternal twins)

Projection

An observation meant to teach;

Noted, recorded,

Title accurate once more.

So, boring though it may be –

Dreary, tiresome, repetitive:

It’s all projection.

Does that make life an illusion?

Yes, no, yes, no, yes, no, yes.

Projection 4.3.2014

Definitely Didactic;

Listen Carefully

Listen carefully:

It’s the mind instructing.

It’s projection,

Life’s transliteration:

So seductively subjective.

The best reason to clean up

For purer, surer powers;

Thus a clear interpretation;

More trustworthy as instruction.

Listen carefully.

We usually

Dont’t.

Such A Pity 2013

Such A Pity

Such a pity

That life has to end,

Great talents and

The little man –

It doesn’t matter.

Scattered ashes,

Rotted flesh –

There’s nothing fresh

About death –

Or is there?

It Wouldn’t Be Rational 2014

It Wouldn’t Be Rational

To not have proof

(proof lies in in flukes

and strokes of luck)

To ask for faith

Without an answer that’s perceivable

Is something I’m au fait with.

Atheist, who lacking the capacity

For faith

In a can’t-see, can’t-touch

May not or may be looking for the truth.

When I feel

That anxiety that hits at two

I ask for proof,

And poof, I’m lucky –

It arrives. Some form or other

That one cannot show to others,

Scientifically repeat

Or demonstrate.

And that

Is where the pity lies.
