The Original Outsider 2014

The Original Outsider

She never joined a club, sorority –

Was not invited either.

Had few friends – one at a time:

Certainly no circle;

Subtle hierarchies at work.

Her weapon, if she needed one,

Was innocence, an I-don’t- care-

And I-have-other-things-to-do!

She played alone,

Knew she had talent,

Let the envy last a minute

Or repressed it – a good thing;

Those ‘other’ things took over

In that very minute,

For the brain cannot hold on to double states

Or frames of mind

At once.
