A Writer’s Prayer 2014

A Writer’s Prayer

Dear God, don’t let me make up rubbish;

Let it sound, resound like me – not like

A rhyming nebbish from Crown Heights.

Perusing, let the reader read with insight,

Soaking up and taking in, uniting

Personal and universal;

Let every reader find identity (his, hers)

In every phrase (intended, unintended).

This would require grace,

Indulgence from above,

(perhaps within, who knows?)

A blessing saturated with,

What one can only call pure love,

Your love.

I’ll be the vestibule

You be the fuel.

Just don’t allow me to write pap,

Claptrap and crap!

Give me the thunderclap of truth.
