Nelson In The Past Lane

Waking this morning,

Window open, month July but

Autumn coolness and the unexpected:

Who knew that the person Nelson,

Nelson in the fast lane,

In the slow lane

Would be Nelson in the past lane

Soon, so soon?

There was ambition, vanity,

Expectation, bankruptcy;
Wanderings to far and near

Again, again, again.

A zenith and a nadir.

Then an end:

A stroke, stricken coma-ic end.

No more the fast, the slow,

But past, perhaps a new at-last

Without ambition.

Only Nelson will know that.

thank you Arlene for sharing this…
I don’t think you remember me, we met a couple of times when I spent a summer in Sweden with my uncle Nelson and Flora, but this was so many years ago. anyway – just needed to say thank you.
