Fun Without Foundation

When I was sixteen, out on dates,

I found that fun was too complex.

Concealed, the concept unrevealed,

I never found it, it abstruse

With no foundation: an illusion,

And illusions weren’t worth pursuit.

Parties weren’t…Dances weren’t…Dating wasn’t…

Dressing up as expectation,

Grueling dressed up expectation

Brought me angst,

The chain that lead to so-called fun

One of the draining pranks

Of youth.

Now I sing a pundit’s tune

Grounded in its melody: one on one or just alone.

Situations one on one are better than

A group, a crowd, a team, a clan

And lead to fun-serenity.

Even family’s lost its pull,

The beauty in seclusion chosen

And conditional.
