He Always Makes Her Laugh

He Always Makes Her Laugh

Yes, the humor: it requires talent;

Gift which gets her into stitches, which

Frustration, anger, irritation

Can be pushed away,

Deferred, deterred,

Deflected and distracted; like a child’s,

The argument dispersed.

Partly, she admits, she lets it.

On her back, tummy up;

A cat or dog surrendering.

She simply isn’t fast enough

To counter with repliques

With streaks of irony and punch.

So there she’s left,

Laughing at manipulations and diversions;

Loving him in spite…because.

    I suppose that this describes humor as passive aggression. Does anyone agree?
