To Beard Or Not To Beard?
It scratches, catches food;
What it does for good
Is hard to notice.
Who would kiss
A mess of hair!
You never see what’s lying there
Stuffed inside and multiplying.
All those fetching male faces
Growing beards and male moustaches
To conceal their fears and traces:
Face too fat or face too thin,
Double chin,
Disappearing upper lip…
The fashion’s hip,
The phase is ‘in’.
Handsome, adipose, disguise:
Vanities personified.
Squeezing out those qualities
They wish to freeze or wish to hide..
All the faces, young and old,
Shielding gold,
Shielding beauty
With a false virility.
You realize gents,
These are not compliments.!
You can’t replace
A shaven face.
A face with its pure lines unfurled;
A face uncurled for all the world.
Be ye thankful ever
For the pioneering razor:
You as new as morning dew,
I’m the one friend who will tell you.
All the others long withdrew.
