Door to understanding.
Complexity turned to the purity of deep simplicity –
For truth is unadorned; straightforward & invisibly unmixed.
It isn’t slick.
Unpretentious: Art should be…
Skill and taste. Flat out.
Aptitude-cum-spontaneity,
Creativity’s invention
Through the genie of imagination;
Leaving hocus-pocus for the focus of a cat
Or bat out on the hunt when night is black.
Didactic unintentionally,
Knowing from the start that one small signal
Can send waves to each and every starfall;
Sculpting, painting, poetising…
Singing, acting, dramatising…
Working out the details that inform the art
Because you’re smart,
Prepared to ditch the parts
That speak of weakness;
Meter, rhythm, rhyme and stress…
Order, composition; unaccented rest.
Art grows into art when it is modest,
Unimpressed by forces in the neighbourhood.
Art desires to be honest, good.
That’s it.
