Facebook Compliment

     Facebook Compliment.

A nice girl/woman wrote to me on Facebook
With a flattering, remark –
Appreciative about some poem she’d liked.
Not telling me to ‘take a hike’
It was the finest compliment
One could get.

I wrote back et al,
“It has never been and never was intentional
To preach but just to reach out
And do what great thinkers always did:
Say what they have always said:
Use your gifts, purify your motives
And the end will be a positive”.
Simple as a pimple!

Spurred on and gratified,
That in some sense I’d succeeded,
I took my keyboard
And continued…

Cake In the Oven

You can write about anytging. It’s all valid.

Cake In The Oven

Showing everything can be a subject,
To shove into a mindless poem:
Cake’s in the oven,
What can be said
About a recipe that is not bread:
One sits in the sun, pencil, pad,
Waiting for the cake to bake,
Wond’ring if the cake will ‘take’
Not burn but done;
Flour, apple, cinnamon,
Sugar, baking powder in,
Milk, egg, butter for a better flavour
And two guests to come for coffee and…
I’m pretty sure it will be grand.

To give the taste buds and the eyes
An extra prize
There will be whipped cream as disguise.
And should the whole thing fail, Surprise!
Surprise, surprise!

Five Minute Writing

    Five Minute Writing

Though multi, multi miles away
A ray of light connects with me
And chromosomes we cannot see
But visualise as imagery,
Which some call a fantasy
Created by cerebral-ty.

And talk about cerebral-ty
It is the best celebrity
One can
Be fan of,
Not to calibrate but celebrate.
And why some try and some do not,
Not caring why we live and rot…
Is mystery.

As for the life before and after,
While our present’s in the middle:
That’s a riddle, goodness knows,
Since goodness seems to be a key.

I slumber while I meditatively,
Am one of the instinctively
Quadrillion number
Who seek connectivity,
Somehow.

Showing Your Weaknesses: A Manifesto

Showing Your Weaknesses: A Manifesto**

For better or for worse,
I have a friend who reads my verse.
Her judgments put me in my place:
A teaching blessing of rare boldness.
Often nothing to caress,
I must confess I learn a lot
Of what is recommendable, what not.

Should one detail all one thinks –
What’s fine, what stinks?
Does showing I do any good
For others? I think that it should.
It could.

Hence, person’s need to hide, be covered.
Its quality forever hovering, lingering or fluttering…
Why prevent yourself from uttering
What hangs around?
The very ground to what you are?

You are an influence where e’re you go,
What e’er you say, what e’er you do.
It’s unavoidable. So,
If you do what’s meant each moment,
Sent each moment,
It has got to be apparent
For yourself and someone with the selfsame
Need, creed, seed, breed, plead, bleed…
You will have succeeded
In your art, your heart, your part
In life.
Who could want more?

Simplifying

  Simplifying
(the little thought-about aspects of Covid )

The isolating element
Of Covid’s impact
Can have something of a betterment
In potential of the time that’s spent:
Fewer contacts, calls returned, lunches met,
Fewer obligations set;
Fewer places you might go to,
Such as shopping malls paraded through.

Oh, the benefits of staying in.
Throwing sins of wasteful time
Into the garbage bin of waste and slime.

All’s a means of motivation, inspiration,
Open to inventiveness of one’s creation
Which, in turn means making choices
Truer to the inner voices
Waiting for that inner muse
To lift you to a coziness
From booziness, wooziness or busy-ness.

There is principle to hold to:
Everything you wish to do,
Though hard to chew
Can end up good for you.
Simple though not always presto
Which, my friend
Is, you could say, the simple, simplifying end.

Truth, Capital T

    Truth, Capital T

When we say ‘truth: capital T,
What do we mean?
What are we seeking, gleaning
Facts meant to convey
A teaching meant for an every country,
Person, situation; permanently,
Till the end when time stands still,
For good and all, eternally,
Always, everlastingly.

That is what we mean by Truth.

Not the truth that’s non-absolute;
Small t part view, partly true.
What we’re not often told
Should be the same for me and you,
And you and you and you and you –
No matter who, where, what you do.
Shall we call it you-niversal!

Such a word requires reason, landing;
Wisdom’s learning and its earning;
Insight and enlightenment.
This is fun,
For Truth is One.

Thirty-Two Years Left

  Thirty-Two Years Left

To those who worry and are sorry
They’ve got 32 years left,
Sixty-five, full of dismay
I say, here is a key of many keys:
An answer in reply:
Eat really balanced food and drink,
Move, do something live, and think
Creatively within the Now of present thriving,
And your presence on this earth
May carry on till hundred fourth
Or fifth or sixth…
The waft of health
A hefty gift.

Not Brainy, Really

  Not Brainy, Really

While not an intellectual – highbrow, scholarly,
One with powerful capacity,
Not brainy, really –
I’ve an intellect,
( ‘have’ the operative word and key.)

A fondness for analysis,
Driven to keep diving in,
Somehow driven to a depth,
Self-driven by the breadth of gene;
A push to know the underlying of the Now:
How it can help,
Flowing totally unconsciously.

Aptitude?
Attitude?
This unschooled, untooled, no brainchild
Bound up to an inner mould,
An inner world,
This could be, maybe will be
Preface of my books-to-be;
Logical and filled with doubts,
The circus circles ever sprouting,
Cup-of-coffee energies
From God-given tendencies.
Preface to all prefaces,
The real face
Of me.
Not Brainy, Really 6.15.2022 Circling Round Almost Everything II; Arlene Nover Corwin
