Cake In The Oven #2
Showing everything can be a subject,
Shoved into a mindless poem:
What can be said
About a recipe not bread:
One’s in the sun, pencil, pad,
Waiting for a cake to bake,
Wondering if the cake will ‘take’ –
Not burnt but browned;
Flour, apple, cinnamon,
Sugar, baking powder in,
Spices for a subtler flavour,
Guests to come for coffee and…
I’m pretty sure it will be splendid;
At the very least, plain good.
To give the taste buds and the eyes
That extra prize
There will be whipped cream as disguise.
And should the whole procedure fail,
We’ll give them store bought cookies.
