There’s Tomorrow
It takes a year to take this in.
If I don’t do a thing right now,
There is tomorrow.
And if I should go before,
The work exists:
It was completed.
By your works you shall be known.
Interrupted by a dying,
There’s an after and its outflow:
A tomorrow so,
Why worry –
And why rush?
Pay attention to the hush
Of silence.

Hallelujah For The Older Woman
Hallelujah for the older woman,
She’s a prize for the world to see.
Hallelujah older women!
Age spots, wrinkles – deeply lovely!
Sure, there is a lot to cure –
She has the cure:
The cosmos is her paramour.
Gone the vulgar appetites,
Dirty hormones God ignites,
Tiring drives the world invites.
No more of this world – just in it –
And the world a thing –
Her plaything;
Something only age can bring,
Minute by aging minute.

Conducting Life As If It Were A Jazz Improvisation
The fresh, the changed,
The voluntary risk,
The lively soul unmasked,
The task jumped into
Free of plan,
The thought of fear,
Of ‘must’, of ‘ought’,
Some in-known you
That foregoes rescue
Just to find the ‘you’ defined
That calls up some strange peace of mind
Which, in itself makes hard days easy –
Years of falling on your face
Erased,
Conducting life as if it were
A jazz improvisation.
