I Do What I Do 2002

  I Do What I Do

Intending to do

What I did from the womb,

I get on a stage

Or play in a room –

Without compromise:

Extra size boobies,

Up-tempo salads

When I prefer ballads,

Gimmicky codas,

Playing for tips,

Elvis or Beatles, and rocking of hips;

Chowders

Of songs I abhor.

To follow the ear

And capacity’s frame,

Expecting my will

To take part in the game,

Accepting a will

Come from God, karma, star

Without losing sight

Of the mind’s reservoir,

Taking time, sitting tall,

I do what I do

De-controlling

Restriction

That holds back the soul,

In hope that you’ll

Listen because, after all,

I can only do what

I can do.

Filling The Hole 2 2003

Filling The Hole

Your undertaking esoteric,

Father says, “Not economic!

You can’t make a living at it!”

You know in your heart empiric

Someone does. You’re categoric;

Facts historic. Rise may not be meteoric,

But there’s someone there who needs it!

Somewhere out there someone wants it!

Someone’s willing to support you,

Keep a roof over your head,

Pay for food and baby’s bed.

If you keep on doing what you’re doing,

Leaning toward and on your gifts, eschewing

This and that that earns more money,

Go for it! As loony as it seems

Filling The Hole 1 2003

     Filling The Hole

Your undertaking esoteric,

Father says, “Not economic!

You can’t make a living at it!”

You

Someone does. You’re categoric.

Rise may not be meteoric,

But there’s someone there who needs it;

Somewhere out there someone wants it.

Someone’s willing to support you,

Keep a roof over your head

For the food and baby’s bed.

If it’s what you keep on doing,

Leaning on and toward, eschewing

This and that that earns more money –

Go for it, as loony as it seems.

You’re filling someone’s hole and dreams.

A friend of mine researches things.

Purveyors, for whom profit rings the bell

Say that his project has no interest.

He’s a purist. He continues his pursuit.

know in your heart empiric,Wiggling, jiggling pelvis

Sequined leather jacket,

Income high, a high tax bracket.

I have other jazz friends too.

Friends who’ve burned their souls and do.

Do the thing that you were born for!

Spawn the interest others scorn, for

There’s a cover for each pot.

Fill that hole out there with what

God gave you as your lot.

Someone out there’s longing

For the song you sing,

So do your thing

And fill the hole.
