Work Song 2003

         Work Song

Walk, walk, walk, is a holy word.

Walk, walk, walk, is a holy word.

Knowing what I know about sick and tired,

Walk, walk, walk is a holy word.

Lift, lift, lift is a holy word.

Lift, lift, lift is a holy word.

Knowing what I know about weak and strong,

Short and long,

Lift, lift, lift is a holy word.

Bend, bend, bend is a holy word.

Bend, bend, bend is a holy word.

Knowing what I know about stiff and pliant,

Dwarf and giant,

Bend, bend, bend is a holy word.

Look and spot is a holy phrase.

Look and spot is a holy phrase.

Knowing what I know about look and spot,

Spot and not,

Look and spot is a holy phrase.

Think, think, think is a holy word.

Think, think, think is a holy word.

Knowing what I know about clear and blurred,

Wise and nerd, your lies absurd,

Think, think, think is a holy word.

             Small Changes

         (Stick To Your Essence)

I just do the honest song.

Born ’34, exposed to bebop jazz in ’50,

Took it in and went from there

Using changes in the air, my hair,

The wars, the weather –

Any/every- bringing on the songs

Borne from soul-meant-to sing.

Review of Morrisette said,

“Driven, pushed, experimental…

Great but lost…

Put your money on her past.”

Revolutionary changes,

Quirky works sold prematurely –

Ready change that branches out

Is evolution-steady,

Never artful, not a standstill.

I re-make, re-work, relent.

Change seems to do me,

I assent and ‘be’ – content

Continually.
